Where Does Jon Porter Stand Now?

Statement

Date: Aug. 25, 2008
Issues: Oil and Gas

The general election is well under way and I want to thank all of you who turned out to vote in the primary and came to celebrate our victory. We are half way there and with your continued hard work and support we will celebrate again on November 4th.

In the mean time, I will be hard at work making sure the voters of the Third District know the clear differences between Republican Jon Porter and myself. While I have clearly outlined where I stand and why I am the candidate who will bring real change to Washington, it's a little harder to pin down Jon Porter. From critical health care issues to investments in renewable energy, Jon Porter has flip flopped all over the place.
Here are a few examples:

-Fuel Efficiency Standards - In 2005, Jon Porter voted against increasing fuel efficiency standards only to support it in 2007.

-Alternative Minimum Tax - Jon Porter voted twice against efforts to provide 21 million Americans with tax relief and then flipped to support it.

-Minimum Wage - Jon Porter finally did something to help hard-working Americans, voting for an increase in the minimum wage in 2007 - but only after voting against it five times in 2006.

-Children's Health Insurance - Jon Porter voted against health care for 5 million uninsured children in 2007 and then voted for it a month later.

-Renewable Energy - Jon Porter has flip flopped on investments in renewable energy, voting against them numerous times and then for them.

-Prescription Drugs - Jon Porter opposed the re-importation of cheaper drugs to the U.S. before he flip flopped to support it.
Families who are stretched thin cannot afford to wait while Jon Porter stands in the way of real progress, only to flip flop after casting his vote against them. You deserve a leader who is in touch with your priorities from day one. From fighting to bring down gas prices to ending the war in Iraq, I have been clear in my stance from the beginning and will not waiver in Washington. I will be an independent voice for the Third District and provide the leadership we need to move our country in a new direction.
