Issue Position: Women's Rights - Pay Equity

Issues: Women

Women's participation in the labor market has expanded considerably in the last few decades. Although women's pay relative to men's has increased over time, women still earn only 70 cents for every dollar earned by men. The Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying lower wages to some employees than are paid to other employees for "equal work" on jobs requiring "equal skill, effort, and responsibility" and performed "under similar working conditions" at the same location. However, I believe that gender discrimination is still a prevalent problem in the workplace and I will continue to work to end pay inequities.
