Hoeven Commends EPA On Staying The Course On Renewable Fuel Standards

Gov. John Hoeven today commended the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for holding the line on renewable fuel standards (RFS) designed to boost ethanol production and consumptions.

"Administrator Johnson and his team clearly recognized the importance of maintaining our focus at a time when the nation needs alternatives to imported petroleum," Hoeven said. "According to their research, ethanol is helping to keep the price of gas lower, with little impact on food costs."

As Vice Chairman of the Governors' Ethanol Coalition (GEC), Hoeven cosigned a letter urging Johnson to resist efforts to waive the new standards. "In the face of record energy prices, now is the time to ensure that Americans have more energy choices rather than fewer," the letter said.

The GEC is an organization of 36 states and six countries devoted to the promotion and increased use of ethanol. Hoeven chaired the organization in 2003 and currently serves as vice chairman.
