After a lifetime of labor, American workers should be able to retire free from worry of destitution. Therefore we must fight to preserve and strengthen Medicare and Social Security--two great American success stories. They reflect our national commitment to focus on the common good, working for the many and not just the privileged few.

In addition, I believe that government must ensure that pension promises made to retirees are kept. While respecting our capitalist system and for-profit sector, we must act in the public interest when private excesses and greed threaten workers, consumers or investors.
