Issue Position

With over twenty institutions of higher learning located in the Fourth District alone, keeping higher education affordable, accessible and world-class is important. Sadly, House Republican leaders directed their members on the Education and Workforce Committee to slash over $13 billion - the largest cuts to student loans in history - to pay for their mismanagement of the federal budget and tax cuts for the wealthy. Republican changes to the Higher Education Reauthorization Act include charging student borrowers higher fees, raising student loan interest rate caps and raising rates on consolidation loans.
