Durbin Statement on Proposed Canadian National Acquisition Draft Environmental Report

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin today issued a statement following the release of the Surface Transportation Board's Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) regarding the proposed Canadian National acquisition of the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway (EJ&E).

"I'm glad the Surface Transportation Board refused Canadian National's request to fast-track their review. Their acquisition of the EJ&E will have a devastating impact on many of our communities forcing up to a four fold increase in freight traffic in some towns.

"I encourage everyone affected by this proposal to attend the Surface Transportation Board's public hearings, submit statements and let this agency know their concerns."
