WWII Veterans Honored By Congress

The House of Representatives has passed House Concurrent Resolution 409 as part of the celebration leading up to the dedication of the National World War II Memorial that will take place on May 29. The resolution recognizes with "humble gratitude the more than 16,000,000 veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces during World War II and the Americans who supported the war effort on the home front and the completion of the National World War II Memorial on the National Mall in the District of Columbia."

The WWII memorial will be formally dedicated on May 29th by President George W. Bush. It will recognize the members of the United States Armed Forces who served in World War II and will honor the more than 400,000 American servicemen and servicewomen who died defending the United States.

Congressman Issa made the following statements about the service of WWII veterans:

"The victory of America and its allies in World War II, thanks to the brave men and women who fought to defend freedom, was one of our nation's finest achievements.

"The dedication of the World War II Memorial on the National Mall expresses our nation's gratitude for the service and sacrifice of these brave men and women.

"As our nation's armed forces continue the battle against evil in the world, honoring our veterans from World War II reminds us that America's proud legacy of defending freedom rests largely on the bravery of our men and women in uniform and the citizens who support them."

H.Con.Res. 409 was unanimously adopted by the House of Representatives.
