In an effort to better understand the challenges of securing American borders, Rep. Bill Foster will leave on Friday for a fact-finding trip to visit the U.S./Mexico border.
"As a scientist and a businessman, I am always primarily concerned with the facts," Foster said. "Across the district, from St. Charles to Dixon, I have heard from my constituents that immigration is an issue of importance, and I am going on a fact-finding mission to the U.S./Mexico border to better understand how we must address the issue of immigration."
Foster will visit Tucson, AZ and San Diego, CA to tour parts of the border, meet with Border Patrol officials, view and learn about the high-tech "electronic border fence," travel to a port to view passenger and vehicle processing and also visit with Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agents to tour their facilities to investigate the problem of smuggling.
"I want to see firsthand how we are guarding our borders, meet the men and women who are doing the job, get their advice about what works and find out what resources they need to do their jobs better," Foster said. "As a scientist, one specific reason for my visit is an on-site technical evaluation of the electronic border fence' which is being tested along part of the Arizona-Mexico border."
