CONGRESS OVERRIDES PRESIDENT'S VETO OF THE MEDICARE IMPROVEMENT ACT

U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) released the following statement today after the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate voted to override President Bush's veto of the Medicare Improvement Act. The House overrode the President's veto by a vote of 383 to 41 and the Senate did so by a vote of 70 to 26.

"Today, Congress overwhelmingly rejected President Bush's veto of the Medicare Improvement Act. It is a real shame that President Bush decided to play politics with the health needs of seniors, people with disabilities and doctors - delaying implementation and creating confusion, fear and in some instances gaps in coverage. Fortunately, the President's political maneuver backfired and Congress had the strength to override the President's veto."
