Jeff Crank Says no Vacation or Paycheck for Congress Until Work of the People is Done
Jeff Crank, Republican candidate for Congress in Colorado's Fifth Congressional District, today outlined his plan for a solution to Congress not getting the work of the voters done efficiently.
"In the real world outside of Washington, you don't get paid if you miss deadlines or don't finish your work," said Crank. "I think it's time that same concept applied to Washington. It's not fair to the people that we elect our representatives to do a job, and do it on time, but there are no consequences for not doing so efficiently."
Crank explained that while Americans deal with outrageous gas prices and work at home to manage their own budgets accordingly, it's nothing short of wrong that Congress will break for a four-week vacation while not first casting a vote on whether to repeal bans on off-shore drilling and drilling in ANWR .
"This is precisely why we deserve better leadership in Congress. It's bad enough that Congress has been unable to pass legislation to allow for additional drilling. It's simply unconscionable that Speaker Pelosi won't allow the House to vote on the issue. Every member of Congress should be forced to take a stand on this issue," said Crank.
Crank, an avid supporter of offshore drilling and the elimination bio-fuels mandates, today signed the Grassfire.org petition to Congress, Lift the Offshore Drilling Ban Before Congress' Summer Recess.' The petition states:
As a concerned citizen, I am outraged that Congress is dragging its feet on the first vital step to U.S. energy independenceincreasing domestic oil production. I am signing this Citizen Petition calling on Congress to lift the federal moratorium on offshore drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf before the scheduled August recess (August 9). In addition, I am calling on members of Congress to PLEDGE to stay in session this summer until the ban is lifted.
I also call on Congress to aggressively pursue legislation for energy independence that centers on: No ANWR Ban, Oil and Shale, Natural Gas, Nuclear and More Refining.
"As a member of Congress, I will introduce legislation stipulating a daily pay reduction for Members of Congress for each day they go past the October 1 budget deadline. When we send someone to Congress, we expect them to know that they have a job to do, and if it doesn't get done, we will not send you back," concluded Crank.
