Sessions Joins Republican Colleagues in House Walk-Out in Protest of Democrats' Failure to Act on FISA
U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-Dallas) released the following statement after he joined his Republican colleagues in the House of Representatives in walking out in protest of House Democrats' failure to bring critical Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) reform legislation to the floor:
"Today, I stood with my Republican colleagues, reaffirming our commitment to ensure that FISA laws are permanently updated so that our intelligence community has the agility, speed, and accuracy necessary to keep our nation safe.
Unfortunately for Americans, House Democrats have once again chosen to play politics rather than pass FISA reformdespite pleas from the President, the Senate, and House Republicans for swift action on this important issue to ensure the security of our nation.
For over 6 months, House Democrats have had the opportunity to work out their differences on FISA. And their apparent willingness to allow FISA protections to expire on Saturday not only shows the enormity of their irresponsibility, but also the depth of their commitment to advance a liberal, left-wing agendano matter the cost.
Without question, foreign intelligence surveillance is critical to our national security, and I call on House Democrats to end their political games and immediately take up the bipartisan Senate FISA legislation for the good of the nation.
The American people deserve better."
