Rep. Johnson's $1 Billion Law Enforcement Bill Passes House

Rep. Hank Johnson, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, received House approval for his bill to reauthorize the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (Byrne-JAG), which funds crime prevention and criminal justice improvements at the state and local level. H.R. 3546, which restores over $1 billion in funding, moved swiftly from Judiciary Committee to the House and passed with vote of 405-11.

"Law enforcement has made it clear that they need help and I am very pleased that my colleagues agree," said Rep. Johnson. "These grants have been cut year after year. I am very hopeful that we will restore this funding through 2012." Byrne-JAG has the support of law enforcement organizations nationwide.
