Issue Position

Reducing the burden that taxes place on you and your family will be one of my top priorities in Congress. I believe that you and your family know better than the government how to spend your money. As a conservative, let me be clear. Cutting taxes is fundamental! We have seen firsthand time and again how broad based tax cuts help grow our economy and provide new jobs.

In Congress, I will work to make all existing tax cuts permanent. I will push to reduce capital gains taxes so that people are encouraged to save and invest. I will work to eliminate the incredibly unfair alternative minimum tax that is hitting far too many middle class families in our district. In addition, I will work hard to eliminate the death tax in order to save small family businesses, farms and ranches.

The optimal tax system would be one with a very low rate and broad based - one in which the government doesn't pick winners and losers by providing all kinds of loopholes and gimmicks, as the current system does. A flat tax or a national consumption tax needs to be considered.

Unlike some politicians, I am proud to say that I am a firm believer in the virtue of reducing taxes. As your next Congressman, you can count on me to be a committed advocate for lower taxes.
