Crank Calls on Lamborn to Return Quid Pro Quo Cash

Jeff Crank, Republican candidate for Congress in Colorado's Fifth Congressional District, today demanded that Congressman Doug Lamborn return campaign cash donated by the beneficiaries of his earmark spending requests.

"Doug Lamborn has mastered the art of a shake down quickly," said Crank. "Doug Lamborn puts the ‘pro' into quid pro quo."

"Colorado voters deserve better. That's why I've pledged to oppose earmarks. Too often, members of Congress use earmarks for dubious purposes and put themselves into legal and ethical jeopardy.

"Did Lamborn steer earmarks to donors in return for campaign cash? The correlation between his donors and the earmarks invites such speculation. I call on Lamborn to immediately return campaign cash from the beneficiaries of his earmarks. He should avoid any impression of impropriety," concluded Crank.

"Members of Congress should know better. But unfortunately, they don't seem to get it. As Congressman, I'll introduce legislation to prohibit members of Congress from seeking earmarks for contributors or from taking campaign cash from the beneficiaries of earmarks."

A recent Denver Post article revealed that Lamborn has earmarked funds for five businesses that donated campaign funds to Lamborn's 2006 election. Lamborn's requests for these five companies totaled over $29 million.
