"My heart goes out to Tim's family and all who knew and loved him.
"For so many of us, Tim seemed like a part of our families too. He entered our living rooms every Sunday and brought politics home with his direct, fair approach.
"Tim was a respected journalist and the pre-eminent voice of American politics. That voice will be greatly missed."
