Sen. Cornyn Welcomes 1,100 New U.S. Citizens At Austin Naturalization Ceremony

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today delivered the keynote address at a naturalization ceremony for 1,100 new citizens from 85 countries. Today's ceremony was the largest naturalization ceremony in the City of Austin's history.

"It was an honor to welcome and congratulate 1,100 new U.S. citizens today. I commend these men and women for their patience and diligence, and for following the prescribed course to gaining U.S. citizenship. I am proud to call each of them fellow Americans. Texas was built by hard-working and ambitious immigrants who brought vitality and energy to our society. Today's ceremony is confirmation that we remain a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws," Sen. Cornyn said.

As the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee's Immigration, Border Security and Refugees Subcommittee, Sen. Cornyn has led the fight to restore integrity to our immigration system and secure America's borders.

On a related note, Sen. Cornyn's first Senate bill enacted into law was to expedite citizenship for immigrants who serve in our military. And earlier this year he helped pass additional legislation to enhance this effort. He believes those who help defend our security and freedom should be honored with citizenship.
