Graves Keeps Promise to Kearney
Money for Major Kearney Road Projects is One Step Closer
U.S. Congressman Sam Graves announced today that funding for an important Kearney road project has cleared a major hurdle. Previously funded for $2.4 million, the project to widen Highway 92 is now set to receive a total of $4.8 million in federal funds. In May, the House and Senate passed H.R. 1195 to correct the Highway Bill and allow Kearney to receive funding for the Highway 92 project. The President signed the bill into law today.
The funds for the Kearney road projects were originally secured in the 2005 Federal Highway Transportation Bill, but existing contracts prevented the money from offsetting the city's contribution to a project on Highway 33. Last month, the House passed legislation to redirect those funds to Highway 92 for lane widening between the I-35 Intersection and Nation Road. The bill, H.R. 1195, contained over 200 other road projects that needed technical corrections.
"This has been a long process, but everyone's hard work and persistence is paying off," Graves said.
"I am committed to following through on my promises and know Kearney drivers have waited too long for needed improvements."
Graves has worked with local, state and federal officials to ensure the federal funding could be used to address Kearney's transportation needs.
"Congressman Graves' made a promise to this community and he kept it," Representative Doug Ervin said. "This bill doubles the federal funding that Kearney will receive to improve highway 92. This is a project that is long overdue for a growing community and I thank him for his commitment to Kearney and all of Northwest Missouri."
Graves has been committed to addressing the transportation needs of Kearney and the entire Sixth Congressional District and continues to fight for funding for essential road projects in Missouri.
