Hoeven Statement On Verizon Wireless Acquisition Of Alltel

Gov. John Hoeven today issued the following statement on Verizon Wireless's announcement that it will acquire Alltel:

"At the present time, we do not support the planned acquisition of Alltel by Verizon communications. Cell phone customers in our state have largely benefited from the healthy competition between the two companies. Serious concerns regarding competition and customer service are in question as a result of Verizon's intention to acquire Alltel. These issues must be addressed, and assurances made by Verizon, that North Dakota consumers will not be adversely affected by the merger."
