Moran Celebrates with Greensburg One Year After the Tornado

Presents $2.3 Million Main Street Restoration Grant, Celebrates Reopening of Local Thrift Store

Congressman Jerry Moran this weekend joined Greensburg and Kiowa County residents in celebrating the progress made one year after the devastating tornado that swept through the area. On Saturday, Moran presented a $2.3 million Main Street Restoration grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce to Greensburg officials. Moran also celebrated the reopening of one of the first businesses on Main Street, the Care and Share Thrift Store.

"It was wonderful to be in Greensburg one year later and see the progress and difference everyone's efforts have made in rebuilding this community," Moran said. "Rather than being saddened by the memories of last May's storms, there is a feeling of accomplishment as people look back on the last 12 months. I am grateful for the message Greensburg is sharing with all of Kansas and America - that by coming together, we can overcome any obstacle."

The Department of Commerce grant will support the rebuilding of Greensburg's Main Street. The Main Street reconstruction, one of the first major infrastructure projects, will help maintain momentum for rebuilding Greensburg, stimulate the revitalization of the downtown business area and act as an incentive for additional businesses. It is estimated that up to 30 jobs will be created as a result of this grant.
