In addition to my efforts to clean up the impacts of diesel fuel and reduce the use of traditional energy sources, I have supported a number of efforts to help advance the development and commercialization of hybrid and other alternative energy vehicles. As you may know, the Energy Policy Act (EPAct) of 2005 was approved by Congress and signed into law on August 8, 2005. Among other things, the law created an advanced vehicle tax credit program to encourage the use of clean burning, alternative vehicles. I have also strongly supported funding to spur the expansion of hydrogen-based transportation technology as well as funding for improved environmental research, such as the atmospheric test chamber at the University of California, Riverside's College of Engineering - Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT).
