Recognizing that the future of America flows from the successful education of our children, an overwhelming bipartisan Congress passed sweeping elementary and secondary public education reforms into law under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) - a key priority of President Bush - in January 2002.

In order to prepare the next generation with the responsibility of running our country and continuing the prosperity of our economy, we must provide them with the best teachers, tools and classrooms. NCLB puts unprecedented investments and resources into our nation's public education system to ensure that our children have access to the most advanced educational opportunities possible. It is our responsibility to provide our children with the skills that are the foundation to higher education and a higher understanding.

The challenge that Congress and the President have set forth is in NCLB is founded on four pillars of education reform: accountability, flexibility and local control, research-based reform, and expanded parental options. By establishing defined goals and expecting performance, we leave no more room for excuses and, most importantly, we give our children a world of limitless opportunity.
