PR Report - "'Jersey Joe' Pennacchio Announces Candidacy for United States Senate"
New Jersey State Senator "Jersey Joe" Pennacchio today announced his candidacy for the United States Senate at a press conference in Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ.
"I wanted to formally announce
my candidacy here in front of The Statue of Liberty because she serves as an ideal reminder of millions of people's hopes and dreams for a better tomorrow. I also have hopes for a better day and have the Republican vision and experience to help create a better tomorrow for all New Jerseyans," Pennacchio said.
"Lady Liberty is also a reminder of our nation's ideal to take in the 'poor and huddled masses yearning to be free' which has been undermined by over taxation and run-away spending," noted Pennacchio. "She has always welcomed people from around the world to our shores, regardless of where we came from - in my family's case, a poor, Italian immigrant family that settled in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn - and reminded us that the opportunity for success is equal for all. I believe that our system of government must protect this right of self-determination, a right worth fighting for," Pennacchio noted.
As part of his announcement about his run for the U.S. Senate, "Jersey Joe" outlined his 'Promise and Vision" to New Jersey if elected U.S. Senator:
-- To continue to fight and vote against higher taxes.
-- To support an effective defense against all of our nation's enemies.
-- To work to stop illegal immigration and secure our borders NOW!
-- To support energy independence, not only as a smart economic model but as a part of our national defense.
-- To support policies that will help grow and expand our economy.
-- To open up health care to free market forces.
Pennacchio added, "I am just like the 'man on the street' here in New Jersey, an 'average Joe,' and I have worked tirelessly to achieve what I have accomplished thus far, but there is more work to be done. My hope is that New Jersey Republicans will let a real Republican with the right vision lead the way."
About Jersey Joe Pennacchio
"Jersey Joe" Pennacchio is a New Jersey State Senator representing the 26th Legislative District. Like many other elected officials, Joe initially began by volunteering for hometown and county organizations looking to make his community a better place to live. In 1998, Joe ran in a field of 14 candidates for three Morris County Freeholder positions and won. In 1999, Governor Whitman appointed him to the New Jersey State Economic Development Authority.
When Assemblywoman Carol Murphy was selected to serve as Commissioner on the New Jersey State Board of Public Utilities, Joe won a special election to fill her seat in 2003. He has since served in the New Jersey legislature for the last seven years. While in the legislature, Joe fought against all tax increases. His staunch fiscal conservatism and keen grasp of monetary issues earned him the spot as the leading Republican appropriations officer on the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
Pennacchio graduated from New York University College of Dentistry and magnum cum laude from Brooklyn College. He founded and currently runs two successful dental practices in Morris County. Joe, Diane, his wife of 26 years, and their children reside in Montville, NJ.
