Issue Position: Health Care

* Reduce costs so that health care is available to all.

* End congressional gridlock on healthcare by representing taxpayers, not special interests.

* Allow for an effective free market solution by avoiding reckless government intervention.

Solving the Health Care Crisis
We have an obligation to provide health care to all of our citizens. Most will agree that we have one of the best, if not the best, health care systems in the world. Its only problem is that it is too expensive. It has become overly cumbersome and is burdened with nonproductive regulations.

All politicians want to reduce the cost of health insurance and make affordable health care available to every American. The solutions range from government-provided health care to tax laws and incentives that will produce an affordable plan for everyone. Each of the solutions has supporters and detractors from various special interests resulting in congressional gridlock. We must, however, make these difficult decisions. My experience and skills will enable me to evaluate the various solutions and vote for what is best for America.

These are the elements I feel must be incorporated into the healthcare solution:

* ALL medical expenses should be tax-deductible, not just employer sponsored plans.

* Frivolous and malicious lawsuits must be eliminated. Tort reform is essential to keeping health care affordable for all citizens.

* The middle class and uninsured who either cannot or can barely cover the expense of their own health care should not subsidize Medicaid and Medicare.

* Health insurance plans should be transportable. You should not lose your coverage if you get sick or change jobs.

* Regulations that increase the cost of health insurance should be reduced.

* Encourage health savings accounts and private, flexible spending plans.

* Encourage people to lead healthier lifestyles.
