Issue Position: Constituent Service
Thanks to the trust I've worked so hard to earn from my constituents, I'll continue to use my seniority in Congress to help make Iowa an even better place to live, raise a family, receive a world class education, work and retire. As a public servant elected by the people of Iowa , I'm committed to make the federal government operate of, for and by the people.
My commitment to serving constituents is also why I operate six offices across Iowa . I have casework specialists in Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Des Moines, Sioux City and Waterloo who help Iowans unravel problems they may have obtaining Social Security or veterans' benefits, expediting paperwork for passports, finding answers with immigration services or searching for military records. Cutting Red Tape Leads to Happy Resolutions, Jan. 2006.
In addition to blocking out two hours a day of my office schedule to meet with Iowans who've scheduled an appointment to see me while in the nation's capital, I devote considerable time and effort to visit each of Iowa's 99 counties at least once every year. Representative government is a two-way street. That's why I do my best to uphold my end of the bargain. I encourage Iowans to attend my town meetings, send an e-mail, write a letter or call my offices to share their views. I respond to each and every one.
