Markey Statement on EPA's Response to Committee Subpoena

Statement

Date: April 17, 2008
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Environment

In response to the Select Committee's subpoena, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) did not supply the Select Committee with the requested documents by the extended deadline.

Below is the statement of Chairman Edward J. Markey:

'Administrator Johnson and the EPA have not delivered the documents demanded by the subpoena adopted by a unanimous, bi-partisan vote of the Select Committee. The EPA's position that release of these materials will confuse the public and that they are "predecisional" is not persuasive. I will review EPA's response with my fellow Committee members and House leadership to determine next steps in this process.'
