Rep. Hank Johnson Votes to Protect Emergency Personnel and Improve Catastrophic Response

Concerned about the nation's emergency preparedness, Congressman Hank Johnson today voted for the U.S. Fire Administration Reauthorization (H.R. 4847) which strengthens training programs for firefighters nationwide and allocates up to $5 million to upgrade the incident reporting system. H.R. 4847 expands the training activities of the National Fire Academy to address all catastrophes, response to large-scale fire events that involve multiple jurisdictions, hazardous material emergencies; and to improve advanced emergency medical services.

"The nation has faced several natural and man-made disasters in recent years and it is imperative that we shore up our levels of preparedness," said Rep. Johnson. "This authorization will strengthen the response of emergency personnel and it will promote voluntary standards for firefighter health and safety that will better protect those who serve."
