Moran Announces More Funding to Support American Veterans

Congressman Jerry Moran recently asked the President to approve additional funding to enhance health care services for veterans. At the end of December, Congress approved an additional $3.7 billion in emergency funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as a part of funding legislation for 2008. The release of the emergency funding was contingent upon the President's support and he formally approved it this week.

"I consider this the greatest accomplishment of 2007," Moran said. "Our nation's soldiers and their families have made great sacrifices for our country. One of my highest priorities as a Member of Congress is making sure that our veterans receive the care they need and deserve. The increased funding will enable the VA to provide top-notch health care, hire more claims adjudicators, improve mental health services and make other improvements to better serve our nation's veterans."

As a member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, Moran has heard from veterans across the country and throughout Kansas about the need to care for those who have served our country, especially the aging veteran population and those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. The majority of the additional funding will be directed to medical services, administration and facilities through the Veterans Health Administration.
