Moran Questions Federal Aviation Officials about Safety and Maintenance Supervision

Congressman Jerry Moran last week questioned Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials about its airline maintenance supervision during a hearing of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. A recent investigation by the Committee uncovered more than 100 cases of aircraft being operated in commercial service despite being out of compliance with regulations and inspections.

"The number one priority of the FAA has to be safety," Moran said. "Not following procedure and lack of oversight in this particular case is very troubling to me. I will work to see that corrective actions are taken so that the FAA meets the public trust in regard to safety."

The Committee heard from FAA officials, inspectors, and airline and labor representatives. In addition to examining what happened, the Committee focused on how this occurred and is working to prevent such a situation from happening again.

Moran is a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation.
