Rep. Joe Courtney today issued the following statement on the news that our nation suffered its 4,000th casualty in Iraq over the weekend:
"This sad milestone is a reminder that our men and women in uniform are serving and sacrificing in Iraq every day. Our troops, and their families, continue to bear the full brunt of this war. With each of these losses come fathers, mothers, sons, daughters and loved ones across the country whose lives will never be the same.
"The sacrifice of our troops must be matched by the willingness of the Iraqi government to take concrete steps towards their national reconciliation. As Congress prepares to receive another update from General Petraeus and other top officials on the progress of the war, I will continue to press for a change in policy that draws down our presence in Iraq to ease the burden on our troops, their families and our overstretched military."
