League of Conservation Voters, Humane Society and Children's Defense Fund All Give Congressman Top Rating

U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) today announced that he has received 100% ratings from three important national advocacy groups. The League of Conservation Voters, the Humane Society, and the Children's Defense Fund all recognized Rep. McGovern as a leader in Congress on important issues for 2007.

Rep. McGovern was one of only of 33 members of the House (out of 435) to receive a 100% ranking from the League of Conservation Voters (LCV). LCV focused on issues of renewable energy, global warming, clean air, clean water and protecting endangered species, among other environmental issues. More information can be found at www.lcv.org.

The Humane Society based its rankings on a number of animal protection issues. These included support for legislation banning the slaughter of horses for human consumption and stiffening penalties for animal fighting. Details can be found at www.humanescorecard.org.

The Children's Defense Fund scored members of Congress on a broad range of issues important to children and families, including health care (including SCHIP, the State Children's Health Insurance Program), increasing the minimum wage, and budget and appropriations bills. More information is available at www.cdfactioncouncil.org.

"I am very proud to receive such strong rankings from these groups," Rep. McGovern said. "I will continue to work hard in Congress to strengthen children and families, to improving our environment, and to protect animals from cruelty."
