House Democrat Politics Stand in the Way of National Security

Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-02) issued the following statement today after he joined House Republicans in walking out of the House Chamber to protest the Democrats' vote on a contempt resolution against White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers.

"It is quite clear by the contempt resolution the Majority brought to the Floor today that their leadership is more interested in trying to score political points rather than pass sound national security legislation," said Wilson. "The Protect America Act is set to expire. The Senate has passed a permanent fix, and the President has agreed to sign it. The only thing standing in the way of protecting American families is the type of political posturing we see today."

"The American people are fed up and tired of these politics-as-usual antics. Therefore, Republicans will not sit idly by as Democrats waste time. We stand ready to pass a permanent fix to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. We need to give our intelligence community the tools they need to fight the Global War on Terrorism."
