Boozman Seeks Improvement For Vet Programs
U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today held an oversight hearing of the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity to consider reauthorization and improvement of veterans' programs that will soon expire.
The Subcommittee considered the following programs, which are administered by either the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or the Department of Labor (DOL) Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS):
* Incarcerated Veterans Transition Program (IVIP)
* DOL/VETS Claim and Office of Special Counsel (OSC) pilot program to compare claims processing under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act
* Apprenticeship and On-Job-Training
* Demonstration Project on Adjustable Rate Mortgages-Section 3707
* Demonstration Project on Hybrid Adjustable Rate Mortgages-Section 3707A
* Post-Vietnam Era Veterans' Educational Assistance Program
* Survivor and Dependents Educational Assistance
"In general, I believe there is always room for improvements to any program," Boozman said. "We must find ways to make such improvements as we consider extension of programs intended to support our veterans."
Boozeman commended Mr. Matthew Tully of Tully, Rinckey & Associates, PLLC for his helpful testimony in which he suggested amendments to Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
"Mr. Tully, I appreciate your thorough testimony, which identifies specific problems, provides reasonable solutions, and cites the corresponding statute pertaining to your recommendations. You have certainly provided assistance on how to improve these programs and help America's veterans."
