Walberg Response to President's State of the Union Address

WALBERG RESPONSE TO PRESIDENT'S STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) released the following statement regarding President Bush's State of the Union Address this evening.

"After tonight's call for fiscal responsibility, the President must stand firm in his commitment to trimming government spending, reducing the deficit and improving the way taxpayer dollars are spent. The President must also work with Congress to pass incentive-based, permanent tax relief to job-creators so that the private sector can invest in new equipment and capital, hire more employees and create more good-paying jobs. Restraining spending, eliminating the deficit and reducing the tax burden will bring good-paying jobs back to Michigan and keep America competitive.

"I have serious reservations about the re-authorization of No Child Left Behind, a massive bill filled with time-consuming mandates that increase the presence of federal bureaucrats in our classrooms. We need to advance education policies that allow a child's educational path to be determined by a child's parents and teachers, not federal bureaucrats."
