Diaz-Balart Votes for Energy Bill

Today the House of Representatives passed the Energy Bill. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) voted in favor of the bill and made the following statement:

"Despite some serious flaws, I voted for this energy bill because the most egregious provisions were excluded from the final version. There is no justification in taxing domestic oil production and exempting foreign producers of oil like Hugo Chavez from these same taxes. Fortunately, this part was removed.

"The bill takes positive steps toward reducing America's dependency on foreign oil and encouraging the use of domestic renewable sources to create fuel. CAFÉ provisions in the bill raise standards in a responsible way without jeopardizing jobs and make cars more efficient and less reliant on foreign oil," said Diaz-Balart.

The Energy Bill raises CAFÉ standards to 35mpg by 2020 and establishes a Renewable Fuels Standard, which mandates the use of 36 billion gallons of renewable fuel by 2022.
