Raise Taxes: The Typical Washington Solution

U.S. Congressman Graves responded to a federal panel's suggestion that the current gas tax of 18.4 cents per gallon be raised to 40 cents per gallon.

"I would oppose a new tax increase, that is the typical Washington response to a problem. Americans are already paying too much at the pump for gasoline. I believe that we should invest in our roads and infrastructure, but the way to do it is to cut spending on wasteful federal programs."
