PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE RIGHT FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH
'The President was right to define tax-and-spend policies as the enemy of job creation and a recipe for economic disaster'
WASHINGTON-U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Senate Budget Committee, made the following statement Wednesday regarding President Bush's speech at the Women's Entrepreneurship in the 21st Century Forum:
"Despite the rampant pessimism heard so often on the campaign trail lately, America has the best work force in the world, and remains the best equipped to compete in the global economy. Yet still we hear the rhetoric of those who think that bureaucrats with green eye-shades know best - not small business owners - and that we ought to be raising the tax burden on the American people by eliminating the President's tax cuts. This is exactly the wrong course, at exactly the wrong time.
"Those who honestly believe we can sue, tax, and regulate our way to economic growth and prosperity are fooling themselves. The President was right to define tax-and-spend policies as the enemy of job creation and a recipe for economic disaster.
"I believe that we will only solve our long term economic problems when a fundamental change is fully implemented in our government's attitude toward business and the free market. We must value the principles of free trade and competition, not hide behind walls. We must encourage success and innovation, not punish it. And we must renew that old American conviction that protecting freedom, not restricting it, is the highest goal of government."
