Sessions Applauds Economic Stimulus Agreement

Cites pro-growth expensing provisions for job-creating businesses

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-Dallas) today released the following statement in response to the bipartisan economic stimulus package agreement announced today by President Bush and congressional leaders:

"I am pleased that President Bush and congressional leaders took this opportunity to recognize the importance of business expensing to encourage economic growth. By offering a nearly $50 billion expensing incentive to spur business investment in new equipment, this agreement will allow American business to reinvest in their businesses and grow our economy by hiring new workers.

"This pro-growth proposal reflects the principles behind the EXPENSE Act - legislation that I have introduced which allows businesses to determine their own depreciation schedules and allocate their resources more efficiently as the market demands - not as dictated by an arbitrary expensing table. I applaud the inclusion of this common-sense solution in the stimulus package to provide American businesses with additional tools to remain competitive globally."
