Smith Comments on Climate Change Visit to South Pole, Great Barrier Reef

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) today discussed his recent bipartisan Congressional delegation tour, led by Rep. Brian Baird (D-WA), which studied the effects of climate change on location in Antarctica and the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia.

"Our climate is changing. The question now needs to be what is the human impact and what we can do to lessen that impact. Unfortunately, this debate is often hijacked by one side or the other, and this bipartisan trip with the House Science and Technology Committee was a tremendous opportunity to speak with experts," Smith said.

Members who participated in the delegation include Reps. Baird, Smith, as well as Russ Carnahan (D-MO), Bob Inglis (R-SC), Frank Lucas (R-OK), Charlie Melancon (D-LA), Randy Neugebauer (R-TX), Mike Ross (D-AR), Loretta Sanchez (D-CA), and John Tanner (D-TN).

The delegation departed Saturday, December 29, and returned late Tuesday, January 8. While abroad, Members toured the International Antarctic Center, the South Pole, and the Great Barrier Reef. They met with scientists and experts at each location to discuss climate change and other issues.
