Capito Reminds Seniors of Prescription Drug Enrollment Period

Seniors Can Change Medicare Prescription Drug Plans Through December 31st

Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) today reminded West Virginia seniors about this year's open enrollment period for Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage. In a message sent to constituents, Rep. Capito encouraged West Virginians to review their prescription drug coverage plans.

"Seniors have an opportunity to make changes to their Medicare prescription drug benefit plan over the next few weeks," noted Capito. "I encourage West Virginians to take a look at their plan and be sure it's the right one for them. Members of my staff are also available to assist seniors who need more information about the various options."

Rep. Capito co-sponsored the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit that was signed into law in December of 2003. She was also named the Vice Co-Chairwoman of the House Prescription Drug Task Force by then-House Speaker Dennis Hastert. Since the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit went into effect, 91 percent of West Virginia's seniors now have prescription drug coverage.

The open enrollment period for seniors with prescription drug coverage under Medicare Part D continues until December 31, 2007. Open enrollment for Medicare Advantage will begin on January 1, 2008 and will run through March 31, 2008. More information can be found by visiting www.medicare.gov, where seniors can compare plans and benefits.
