Smith Comments on FSA Office Closures

On the day ten Nebraska Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices closed their doors, Third District Rep. Adrian Smith released the following statement:

"These FSA offices are tremendously important. It had been my sincere hope we could have found a way to delay these closures, at least until Congress could complete its work on the reauthorization of the Farm Bill. Now producers in my district could face even more uncertainty as these offices relocate and we go into the New Year with the Farm Bill still unfinished," Smith said.

Of the ten FSA offices closing today, nine are in the Third District. Smith is co-sponsor of legislation delaying the closures for one year, and has actively supported similar language attached to the reauthorization of the Farm Bill, currently stymied in the Senate.

FSA office employees relocating to new sites will start their jobs next Monday.
