Statement Of Gov. John Hoeven On WSI Actions Today
Gov. John Hoeven today issued the following statement regarding Workforce Safety and Insurance:
"Prior to this morning's Workforce Safety and Insurance meeting, I directed my Chief of Staff, Ron Rauschenberger, and Counsel, Ryan Bernstein, to meet with WSI Chairman Bob Indvik and communicate that I believe the Board needs to address three key issues:
"First, the agency needs new leadership, and that means the Board needs to take action to remove the existing director and find a new one.
"Second, WSI must follow through as expeditiously as possible to retain an independent, objective outside consultant as I have urged. It is essential that the WSI Board act in a thorough and transparent manner to resolve the management and claims issues at the agency.
"And third, WSI must not retaliate against any whistleblower. The agency has an obligation to the public to explain its dismissal of a WSI employee who sought whistleblower status with the Attorney General's office.
"I will continue to press the agency to take whatever steps necessary to ensure that WSI is working effectively to serve injured workers in North Dakota."
