ROAN PLATEAU IN COLORADO DESERVES PROTECTION

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Energy and Commerce Committee Vice Chair Diana DeGette (D-CO) today issued the following statement regarding the Energy Bill negotiations in Congress:

"I regret that the Energy Bill being negotiated in Congress fails to include a provision that would have prevented oil and gas drilling on the Roan Plateau. The Roan Plateau is one of the crown jewels of Colorado's last remaining wild places and deserves protection from harmful energy exploration.

"However, I will continue to push for protection of the Roan Plateau. The Colorado Wilderness Act designates over 60 wild places as federally protected wilderness areas, including the Roan Plateau, safeguarding these places from oil and gas development.

"I am working aggressively to move this legislation forward by soliciting input from my colleagues in Congress and Coloradoans throughout the state."
