Rep. Moore's Statement on House Passage of Temporary Tax Relief Act of 2007

(Washington, DC) — "One year ago this week the American people voted for change and today's passage of the Temporary Tax Relief Act of 2007 exemplifies the Democratic commitment to providing a new direction for America.

For the past seven years, President Bush's fiscally irresponsible tax policies have padded the pockets of a privileged few while leaving millions of Americans behind. When the President provides tax relief he focuses on millionaires. When we do it, we provide relief to the middle class.

In a fiscally responsible way, this legislation protects 23 million middle class families from being hit by the Alternative Minimum Tax, helps 12 million children by expanding the child tax credit and increases the affordability of college for 4.5 million families by extending the deduction for tuition and education expenses.

Unlike the Bush Administration, Democrats in Congress understand the importance of providing tax relief to individuals and families in a fair and responsible manner that highlights America's real priorities and doesn't increase the national debt. I hope President Bush gets the message."
