Gillibrand Votes to Keep Internet Access Tax-Free

Today, local Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand voted in favor of legislation which would keep the internet tax-free for another four years. The legislation, H.R. 3678, amends current law which is set to expire next month. The Internet Tax Freedom Act prohibits the ability to tax access to the internet.

"This legislation will help ensure consumers access to high-speed internet in underserved areas while protecting families and small businesses from paying onerous taxes and fees," said Congresswoman Gillibrand. "The expansion of broadband services into our rural communities is a priority of mine and will help attract good paying jobs to the region."

The Congresswoman, who founded the Congressional High Tech Caucus, is a co-sponsor of H.R 743, legislation that would make the internet tax moratorium permanent.

The Internet Tax Freedom Act, was first passed in 1998, and has since been twice extended. In her first term of Congress, Congresswoman Gillibrand has sponsored several tax cut measures targeted towards New York's Upstate and North Country families.
