CONGRESSMAN "FRIGHTENED" BY PROPOSED $3.5 TRILLION TAX HIKE

Washington, Oct 31 - U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI), who earlier this year introduced legislation that would make permanent tax relief passed in 2001 and 2003 (H.R. 2734 - The Tax Increase Prevention Act), issued the following statement today about Democrats' proposed "mother of all tax bills."

"It is not easy for a 56 year-old man to get frightened, but I must confess this Halloween I am absolutely terrified of what Democrats in this haunted House of Representatives are currently trying to do: pass the largest tax increase in American history.

"A Democratic plan unveiled last week would levy new taxes on Americans in every single tax bracket and increase the tax burden of hard-working families by an astounding $3.5 trillion.

"Their complex, European-style tax plan would bring back and expand the Death Tax, crush American competitiveness and cripple small business owners and family farmers. The Democratic plan is all tricks and no treat for every taxpayer in America.

"Rather than using partisan politics to pass the mother of all tax hikes, Democrats in this Congress should work with Republicans to make the tax code fairer and simpler and make tax relief permanent to further grow our economy."
