Capito Votes to Override SCHIP Veto

Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) made the following statement today after voting to override the President's veto of a bill to reauthorize the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP):

"This is a bipartisan program that has worked in West Virginia. It has stayed true to its original goal of covering low-income Mountain State children, and it's unfortunate that we didn't have the votes to override the veto.

"We must make healthcare for children a top priority. By providing a healthy childhood for these children and encouraging healthy habits we will actually save healthcare costs over the long-run.

"We'll now go back to the drawing board and come up with another compromise bill, but we owe it to West Virginia's children to move quickly toward an agreement on this issue."
