Congresswoman Gwen Moore Statement on President Bush's Veto of SCHIP

Congresswoman Gwen Moore released the following statement after President George Bush's veto today of SCHIP that would have given health coverage to a total of 10 million children whose families work but cannot afford health insurance.

"The President sure has an odd way of displaying his "compassionate conservative" side. If you want to talk about compassionate legislation, SCHIP is it," Congresswoman Gwen Moore said. "This is fiscally responsible legislation that will help struggling working families provide necessary health insurance for their children. This bill is about our children's health and future - it's unfortunate that the President vetoed this bipartisan legislation that works to protect our nation's children."
