Congresswoman Gwen Moore: We Will Not Back Down On Our Commitment to Children's Health Care

Congresswoman Gwen Moore released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed new legislation today to reauthorize the bipartisan Children's Health Insurance Program and provide health care for 10 million children. After vetoing the first SCHIP bill, President Bush is already threatening to veto the latest bill despite its aim to address many of the Republicans' concerns.

"Congress showed today that we will not back down from our pledge to provide health care for 10 million children.

President Bush is like Quick Draw McGraw when it comes to denying our children health care. The ink is not even dry and the White House already has decided that it will veto the bill.

This latest bipartisan compromise bill provides health care for 10 million children while addressing many of the Republicans' concerns.

This bill is about our morals, compassion, and priorities - I hope the President will realize that."
