Rep. Johnson Says No to War Profiteering
WASHINGTON -- Rep. Hank Johnson, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, voted in support of the War Profiteering Prevention Act ( H.R.400). After the vote, he issued the following statement:
"The war in Iraq is sad in so many ways including the terrible waste of U.S. taxpayer dollars. The American taxpayer should not be left holding the tab when some unprincipled businesses behave badly.
The situation is so bad that we in Congress must pass a law against war profiteering since U.S. anti-fraud laws don't pertain to American contractors operating overseas.
The War Profiteering Prevention Act of 2007 would close this loophole, make these activities criminal, and will hold contractors accountable."
