Economic success of region a testament to hard work, good policies

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today welcomed President George W. Bush to Northwest Arkansas, saying the region's economic success, phenomenal growth, and economic outreach made the area attractive for a Presidential visit.

"We have got a great story to tell here in Northwest Arkansas, and the Third District," Boozman said. "The world-class businesses, the small businesses, the local leadership, and the men and women who go to work everyday is what powers the economic engine of Northwest Arkansas, and this is why the nation will focus on us today."

Bush's visit will underscore the importance of pro-growth economic policies and spending restraint to ensure continued economic prosperity and lowering of the federal budget deficit. On Thursday it was announced the budget deficit was at its lowest point in the previous five years, falling to $163 billion, as tax revenues have reached record highs.

"In just over three years, we have reduced the deficit by more than half," Boozman said. "This is directly tied to the strong economy of the United States, which is based on the hard work of our people, the entrepreneurial spirit of our business leaders, and the lower tax burden on the men and women of America.

"Lower taxes have generated higher revenues and have encouraged the investment needed to allow businesses to create the jobs which have resulted in 49 consecutive months in uninterrupted job growth," Boozman added. "It is important that we continue to keep taxes lower, so that Americans can keep more of their hard-earned money in their own hands."

Bush is also expected to discuss the global trade efforts of Northwest Arkansas, including the Arkansas World Trade Center that Boozman and the University of Arkansas helped to bring to Rogers.

"Our goal with the WTC is to form relationships so that we can send our products around the world, resulting in more jobs for our region," Boozman said. "Northwest Arkansas is a prime location to witness what can happen when entrepreneurial spirit and global vision is partnered with sound economic policy. I am proud of the hard work put forward by our businesses and employees, as well as our chambers of commerce and local government to create situations where business and employment can thrive."

The idea to come to Northwest Arkansas was first relayed to Rep. Boozman by the White House during a phone call. Since then, Boozman, and his staff, have been working with the Rogers-Lowell Chamber of Commerce to secure the visit. Several local leaders, including Rogers Mayor Steve Womack, have recognized Boozman's efforts publicly.
